Literacy is such a baseline for everyday life that we hardly appreciate it. You might think of reading books, websites, and for jobs, but that overlooks the essentials: reading bills, understanding medication instructions, helping kids with homework.
Many adults are shut out of these basic activities. That’s why we are excited to host Kera Yonker with Orange Literacy, a volunteer-driven organization right here in Carrboro. It provides free tutoring and classes for adults to improve their reading, writing, basic math or English language skills.
